ESST Acorn Award for Outstanding Scholar

George Phlip 

Awarded to the ESST student who best exemplifies energy and enthusiasm for learning, an inquiring mind, critical thinking, academic excellence and evidence of working towards a value-based vision of a sustainable future. A fruit tree is planted on campus in his or her name, and the person is recognized on a plaque in the ESST Student Lounge.

George (with Dr. Alan Warner, ESST faculty) is a passionate, creative, critical thinker who is always up for a challenge. In the past year he completed his honours thesis on "Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in Nova Scotia". 'On the side', in addition to his regular courses, he has been the Campus Sustainability Officer and has been elected as President of the Acadia Student Union for 2018-19. He has completed his double major in ESST and Economics, earning a Bachelor of Arts, and is returning to take additional courses in 2018-19.
